Price for Wine; Still, in Containers Holding More than 2 Litres in Australia (FOB) - 2024

The average export price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses stood at $655 per thousand litres in January 2024, reducing by -12.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2023 an increase of 3.3% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $859 per thousand litres in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Japan ($1.0 per litre), while the average price for exports to Canada ($470 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In January 2024, the average import price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses amounted to $3.0 per litre, with an increase of 2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4.0 per litre. From March 2023 to January 2024, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4.1 per litre), while the price for Argentina ($1.5 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the amount of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses exported from Australia rose significantly to 410M litres, picking up by 8.7% on 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 430M litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses reduced to $348M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 17%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $435M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
