The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $337M, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In 2022, Brazil (4.9M square meters), Peru (4.9M square meters), Egypt (4.4M square meters), the United States (4M square meters), Morocco (3.7M square meters), China (3M square meters), Vietnam (2.8M square meters), Bangladesh (2.7M square meters), Russia (2.3M square meters), Mexico (2.3M square meters), Ukraine (2.3M square meters) and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (2.1M square meters) represented the main importer of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) in the world, mixing up 52% of total import. Japan (1.9M square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +52.6%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 62%. The global exports peaked at 86M square meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, quilted textile products exports rose modestly to $246M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the peak figure at $422M in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports By Country

China prevails in exports structure, finishing at 47M square meters, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2022. South Korea (3.3M square meters), Italy (3M square meters), Slovakia (2.8M square meters), the Netherlands (2.4M square meters), the United States (1.5M square meters) and Malaysia (1.3M square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to quilted textile products exports from China stood at +14.8%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+31.5%), South Korea (+23.5%), Slovakia (+22.2%), Malaysia (+6.7%) and Italy (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +31.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United States (-11.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, South Korea, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Italy increased by +48, +3.9, +3.3, +3 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($96M) remains the largest quilted textile products supplier worldwide, comprising 39% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($21M), with an 8.6% share of global exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +14.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+3.8% per year) and the United States (-2.8% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average quilted textile products export price amounted to $3.3 per square meter, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year.
