The third position in this ranking was taken by Panama (541 units), with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in the Philippines amounted to +4.2%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of consumption growth: Italy (+1.0% per year) and Panama (+2.3% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($10.5B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($5.1B). It was followed by Italy.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +33.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+5.9% per year) and Italy (+1.5% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 299% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,837,994 per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Gibraltar ($17,688,510 per unit), while Portugal ($30,196 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, shipping exports soared to $14.7B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant increase. Italy represented the key exporting country with an export of around 867 units, which amounted to 46% of total exports. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +50.6% from 2012-2022. Italy (+29 p.p.), China (+13 p.p.), the Netherlands (+4.7 p.p.), France (+3.9 p.p.), Turkey (+3.1 p.p.), Spain (+2.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Italy ($4.5B), France ($3.6B) and China ($706M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 60% of global exports. Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.9%.
Among the main exporting countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +137.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices By Country
In 2022, the average shipping export price amounted to $7,802,312 per unit, surging by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 74%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($19,788,364 per unit), while the Czech Republic ($126,703 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
