Software Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average software export price amounted to $11 per unit, waning by -21.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $18 per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($27 per unit), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($2.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Software Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average software import price amounted to $1.8 per unit, declining by -18.3% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a tangible expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, software import price decreased by -18.3% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 28% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2.1 per unit in July 2023, and then fell notably in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($7.8 per unit), while the price for Italy ($329 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Software Exports in the United States
Software exports from the United States skyrocketed to 127M units in 2022, jumping by 24% against 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, software exports contracted to $1.4B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $1.6B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
