Styrene-Acrylonitrile Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average styrene-acrylonitrile export price stood at $2,140 per ton in August 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,452 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($2,548 per ton) and France ($2,396 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,786 per ton) and Austria ($1,974 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Styrene-Acrylonitrile Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
The average styrene-acrylonitrile import price stood at $2,364 per ton in August 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 15% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,056 per ton. From December 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($5,220 per ton), while the price for Austria ($1,275 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Styrene-Acrylonitrile Exports in the Netherlands
Styrene-acrylonitrile exports from the Netherlands contracted remarkably to 194K tons in 2022, which is down by -25.1% compared with 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 259K tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, styrene-acrylonitrile exports declined notably to $495M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +47.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $619M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Styrene-Acrylonitrile Imports in the Netherlands

Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 46% against the previous year.
In value terms, styrene-acrylonitrile imports contracted dramatically to $33M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $59M, and then shrank notably in the following year.
