The average sulphites; thiosulphates import price stood at $788 per ton in December 2022, picking up by 1.8% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2021 to December 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2022 an increase of 45% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $816 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to December 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Thailand ($856 per ton) and Italy ($855 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($733 per ton) and China ($759 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sulphites; thiosulphates export price stood at $776 per ton in 2022, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 61%. The export price peaked at $975 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($2,394 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($438 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of sulphites; thiosulphateses decreased by -2.2% to 15K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 15K tons, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In value terms, sulphites; thiosulphates imports shrank to $7.6M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $8.4M, and then dropped in the following year.
