Synthetic Rubber Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average synthetic rubber export price amounted to $1,430 per ton, growing by 1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 6.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,573 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,948 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($792 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Synthetic Rubber Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2022
In 2021, the average synthetic rubber import price amounted to $2,275 per ton, growing by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The import price peaked at $3,024 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,990 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,837 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Synthetic Rubber Exports in Thailand
Synthetic rubber exports from Thailand expanded notably to 1.6M tons in 2022, picking up by 15% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -11.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.8M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, synthetic rubber exports expanded modestly to $2.4B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $2.4B; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Synthetic Rubber Imports in Thailand
In 2022, overseas purchases of synthetic rubber decreased by -3.5% to 669K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year.
In value terms, synthetic rubber imports reduced dramatically to $1.3B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.6B, and then declined sharply in the following year.
