Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +52.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nepal (+70.6%), Tunisia (+63.5%), Indonesia (+35.0%), Italy (+33.9%), India (+26.3%), Malaysia (+23.2%), Canada (+13.2%), Switzerland (+13.1%), Vietnam (+9.8%) and Norway (+9.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +70.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the UK (-5.2%) and Singapore (-19.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United States (+21 p.p.), Tunisia (+4.1 p.p.), Malaysia (+4 p.p.), India (+3.5 p.p.), Italy (+3.4 p.p.), Nepal (+3.1 p.p.), Indonesia (+2.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.4 p.p.), Switzerland (+2.1 p.p.) and Canada (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of the UK (-4.5 p.p.) and Singapore (-29.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($30M), Italy ($20M) and Vietnam ($14M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 17% of global imports. Switzerland, Nepal, Indonesia, Canada, the UK, Norway, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

Nepal, with a CAGR of +266.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average teleferics and chair-lifts import price stood at $13,770 per unit in 2022, dropping by -18.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 124%. Global import price peaked at $28,957 per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($20,292 per unit), while Tunisia ($111 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

At the same time, Switzerland (+77.6%), Australia (+57.7%) and Singapore (+18.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Switzerland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +77.6% from 2012-2022. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Thailand (-1.1%), Austria (-5.3%), China (-6.9%) and the UK (-16.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+36 p.p.), Switzerland (+9.5 p.p.), Australia (+7.2 p.p.) and Singapore (+5.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Italy, Thailand, China, Austria and the UK saw its share reduced by -3.2%, -8.2%, -10.6%, -14% and -18.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Austria ($215M) remains the largest teleferics and chair-lifts supplier worldwide, comprising 45% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($103M), with a 22% share of global exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Austria amounted to -2.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+0.9% per year) and the UK (-8.2% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average teleferics and chair-lifts export price amounted to $4,155 per unit, waning by -56.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 53%.
