Pakistan, India, Japan, Nigeria, Germany, Bangladesh, the UK, Indonesia, Russia and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of consumption, amongst the key consuming countries, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +24.3%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($676M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($261M). It was followed by the United States.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Bangladesh stood at +14.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+36.1% per year) and the United States (+26.0% per year).

In 2022, the highest levels of travel set per capita consumption was registered in the United Arab Emirates (5,251 units per 1000 persons), followed by the UK (566 units per 1000 persons), Germany (496 units per 1000 persons) and Japan (380 units per 1000 persons), while the world average per capita consumption of travel set was estimated at 167 units per 1000 persons.

In the United Arab Emirates, travel set per capita consumption increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the UK (-1.2% per year) and Germany (+7.2% per year).

Production

World Production of Travel Sets

In 2022, global travel set production surged to 1.6B units, increasing by 25% on the previous year's figure. In general, production continues to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 89%. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 1.7B units. From 2021 to 2022, global production growth remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, travel set production soared to $6.3B in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 1,590%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $22.1B. From 2014 to 2022, global production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

China (409M units) remains the largest travel set producing country worldwide, comprising approx. 26% of total volume. Moreover, travel set production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United Arab Emirates (103M units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Pakistan (51M units), with a 3.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China was relatively modest. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the United Arab Emirates (0.0% per year) and Pakistan (+17.5% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Travel Sets

In 2022, supplies from abroad of travel sets was finally on the rise to reach 292M units after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Global imports peaked at 350M units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, travel set imports soared to $303M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports By Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (72M units), distantly followed by the United States (37M units), Turkey (19M units) and the UK (18M units) represented the major importers of travel sets, together making up 50% of total imports. The following importers - Qatar (11M units), Canada (11M units), Russia (9.9M units), Australia (7.5M units), the Philippines (6.1M units), Taiwan (Chinese) (5.6M units) and Brazil (5.1M units) - together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +49.3%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($50M), the United States ($38M) and the UK ($24M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 37% share of global imports. Turkey, Qatar, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, Russia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +47.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average travel set import price stood at $1 per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 38%. Global import price peaked at $1.1 per unit in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($1.7 per unit), while Brazil ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+7.7%), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.

Exports

World Exports of Travel Sets

In 2022, shipments abroad of travel sets increased by 67% to 544M units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +90.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, travel set exports soared to $418M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +68.1% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at $426M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports By Country

In 2022, China (348M units) was the major exporter of travel sets, mixing up 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (122M units), creating a 22% share of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (24M units) and Cambodia (17M units) - together made up 7.5% of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of travel sets. At the same time, Cambodia (+106.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+84.1%) and Turkey (+62.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +106.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+22 p.p.), Turkey (+4.4 p.p.) and Cambodia (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2022, the share of China (-9.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, China ($200M) remains the largest travel set supplier worldwide, comprising 48% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($75M), with an 18% share of global exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+61.1% per year) and Cambodia (+82.0% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average travel set export price amounted to $0.8 per unit, falling by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $0.9 per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($1.5 per unit), while China ($0.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
