In value terms, the United States ($649M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($321M). It was followed by India.

India (68K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 6.6% share.

In China, wood kitchenware and tableware production increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the Netherlands (+55.3% per year) and India (+3.9% per year).

Imports

In 2022, global imports of tableware and kitchenware of wood amounted to 693K tons, surging by 7.4% against 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last decade. In value terms, the United States ($520M), Japan ($275M) and Germany ($195M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 39% share of global imports. France, the Netherlands, the UK, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan (Chinese), Italy, China, India and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average wood kitchenware and tableware import price amounted to $3,696 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

China was the main exporting country with an export of around 437K tons, which finished at 58% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (160K tons), committing a 21% share of total exports.
