Apple Juice Exports

Exports in Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of apple juice (single strength) increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apple juice exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. In 2022, overseas purchases of apple juice (single strength) decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, apple juice imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of apple juice (single strength), namely Namibia, Mozambique, Ghana, Seychelles, Somalia, Nigeria, Libya, Botswana, Central African Republic, Mali, South Sudan and Cabo Verde, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Mauritius (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Mauritius (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Namibia ($X), Mozambique ($X) and Nigeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports. Ghana, Botswana, Libya, Seychelles, Somalia, Mauritius, Mali, Central African Republic, Cabo Verde and South Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while South Sudan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
