Buckwheat Production in Africa

In value terms, buckwheat production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a tangible increase. Exports in Africa

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of buckwheat, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. In general, exports showed a sharp downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, buckwheat exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Niger represented the main exporter of buckwheat in Africa, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), achieving a X% share of total exports.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Ethiopia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the buckwheat imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022.
