Exports in Africa

In 2022, approx. X tons of coconuts were exported in Africa; which is down by X% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, coconut exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Ghana (X tons) and Sao Tome and Principe (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Cote d'Ivoire increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Sao Tome and Principe (X%) and Ghana (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2022, Burkina Faso (X tons) was the key importer of coconuts, comprising X% of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Mauritius (X%), Niger (X%) and South Africa (X%). The following importers - Algeria (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Mali (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coconuts in Africa, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a X% share.

In Nigeria, coconut imports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mauritius (X% per year) and Senegal (X% per year).
