After two years of decline, shipments abroad of hazelnuts increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hazelnut exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The biggest shipments were from South Africa (X tons), together recording X% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hazelnuts exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Algeria (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main importers of hazelnuts in Africa, together resulting at approx. X% of total imports. Tunisia (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (X%). The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of X%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
