Primary Fiber Crops Exports

Exports in Asia

In 2022, shipments abroad of fiber crops (primary) decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, primary fiber crops exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) represented the key exporter of fiber crops (primary), constituting X% of total exports. Sri Lanka (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Bangladesh (X%) and Turkey (X%). The following exporters - the Philippines (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from India decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (X%), the Philippines (X%), Turkey (X%), Afghanistan (X%) and Sri Lanka (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Tajikistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Thailand (X%), Vietnam (X%) and Bangladesh (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Sri Lanka, Turkey, the Philippines, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest primary fiber crops supplier in Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a X% share.
