In China, sweet potato production declined by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).
The average sweet potato yield dropped to X tons per ha in 2022, approximately mirroring 2021. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the sweet potato yield attained the peak level at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The sweet potato harvested area declined modestly to X ha in 2022, waning by X% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the harvested area recorded a perceptible slump. Sweet potato exports shrank to X tons in 2022, falling by X% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sweet potato exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Vietnam (X tons), China (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly X% of total exports in 2022. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Japan (X%). The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons) and Israel (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
