The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the export prices for beef (cattle meat) reached its maximum level of $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2017, it failed to regain its momentum.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2017, the country with the highest export price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014, when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of imports peaked in 2017, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, beef imports totaled $X in 2017. The total import value increased an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2017; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. In that year, the beef imports attained their peak level of $X. From 2012 to 2017, growth of the beef imports stood at a somewhat lower level.

Beef Imports by Country in the EU

The imports of the five major importers of beef (cattle meat), namely Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and France, represented more than half of total import. Spain (X tons) took a X% share (based on tons) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Greece (X%). The following importers - Portugal (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Austria (X tons) together made up X% of total imports.

These countries were followed by the UK, France, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Belgium and Austria, which together accounted for a further X%.

Beef Import Prices by Country in the EU

The beef import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2017, surging by X% against the previous year. The beef import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by X% y-o-y. The level of import price peaked of $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Average import prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2017, major importing countries recorded the following import prices: in the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
