Plywood Exports

Exports

In 2023, overseas shipments of plywood decreased by X% to X cubic meters, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plywood exports contracted to $X in 2023. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2023, China (X cubic meters) was the largest exporter of plywood, committing X% of total exports. Indonesia (X cubic meters) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (X%), Vietnam (X%) and Brazil (X%). The following exporters - Chile (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters), Spain (X cubic meters), Malaysia (X cubic meters), Canada (X cubic meters), the United States (X cubic meters) and Finland (X cubic meters) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to plywood exports from China stood at X%. At the same time, Vietnam (X%), Spain (X%), Belgium (X%), Canada (X%), Brazil (X%), Chile (X%), Russia (X%) and Indonesia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, the United States (X%), Finland (X%) and Malaysia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (X p.p.), Brazil (X p.p.), Spain (X p.p.) and Belgium (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2023, the share of the United States (X p.p.), Indonesia (X p.p.), Malaysia (X p.p.) and China (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plywood supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined X% share of global exports. Vietnam, Brazil, Malaysia, Finland, Chile, Canada, Spain, the United States and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average plywood export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2023, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per cubic meter), while Belgium ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of global imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2023, the United States (X cubic meters), distantly followed by France (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters) and South Korea (X cubic meters) were the key importers of plywood, together comprising X% of total imports. Thailand (X cubic meters), the UK (X cubic meters), Germany (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), Japan (X cubic meters), Spain (X cubic meters), Canada (X cubic meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Spain (X%), Thailand (X%), France (X%), Belgium (X%), Poland (X%), the Netherlands (X%) and South Korea (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. The United Arab Emirates, Canada and the UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (X%) and Japan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Thailand, Spain, the United States and Poland increased by X, X, X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
