In value terms, silk yarn exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nepal (X tons) was the main destination for silk yarn exports from India, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, silk yarn exports to Nepal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bhutan (X tons), fourfold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Nepal stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bhutan (X% per year) and the United States (X% per year).

In 2023, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. In general, imports recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, silk yarn imports declined to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, recorded pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2023, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of silk yarn to India, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, silk yarn imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at X%.
