For the third consecutive year, the Polish spice market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2022. Overall, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by X% against 2013 indices. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, spice exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for spice exports from Poland, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, spice exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ukraine (X tons), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (X% per year) and Ukraine (X% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest markets for spice exported from Poland worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. Romania, the UK, Portugal, Ukraine, Russia, Austria, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Belarus and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Portugal, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average spice export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland
In 2022, overseas purchases of spices decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, spice imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of spice imports to Poland, with a combined X% share of total imports. Russia, France, Vietnam, India, China, Turkey, Austria, Ukraine, Indonesia and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spices to Poland, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a X% share.

The average spice import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
