Exports from Thailand

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of chilies and peppers (green), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, chili and pepper exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for chili and pepper exports from Thailand, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, chili and pepper exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia totaled X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (X% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for chilies and peppers (green) exports from Thailand, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Malaysia totaled X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (X% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X% per year).

In 2022, the average chili and pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Thailand

For the eleventh consecutive year, Thailand recorded growth in purchases abroad of chilies and peppers (green), which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chili and pepper imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Myanmar (X tons), China (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) were the main suppliers of chili and pepper imports to Thailand, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
