Global ginger market revenue amounted to 2,956 million USD in 2015, going down by -25.3% against the previous year level. Overall, global ginger market continues to undergo a pronounced growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the market revenue increased by +84% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global ginger market attained its maximum revenue of 3,958 million USD in 2014. From 2015 to the end of the period under review, the total ginger market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global ginger production was primarily driven by population growth, disposable income growth, and diversification of diet. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the ginger output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The countries with the highest levels of production in 2015 were India (597 thousand tonnes), China (413 thousand tonnes), Indonesia (330 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 56% of total output. From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates in almond production among the main producing countries was attained by Indonesia (+8.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The world ginger harvested area amounted to 409 thousand ha in 2015, which was 3.1% more than the previous year figure. The ginger harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +4.8% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total ginger harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for globally.

The global average ginger yield amounted to 58 thousand hg/ha in 2015, rising by 7.5% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +0.5% from 2007 to 2015. However, the yield levels displayed some little fluctuations over the recent years. The highest ginger yields were recorded in 2011, when it peaked at 76 thousand hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
