Global honey market revenue amounted to 5,850 million USD in 2015, growing by +2.1% against the previous year level. Overall, global honey market continues to indicate a noticeable growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the market revenue increased by +21% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global honey market attained its maximum revenue of 5,969 million USD in 2013. From 2014 to the end of the period under review, the total honey market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global honey production was primarily driven by disposable income growth, popularity of healthy eating, and population growth. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the honey output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the honey bee population and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The country with the largest volume of the honey output in absolute volumes was China (478 thousand tonnes), accounting for 28% of global production. Moreover, honey output in China exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest producer, Turkey (110 thousand tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the United States with a share of 5%. From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of China's honey producton stood at +3.7%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Turkey (+5.1% per year) and the United States (+3.3% per year).

The world honey bee population amounted to 37,491 thousand No in 2015, which was 0.9% more than the previous year figure. The honey bee population indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +1.9% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total honey bee population peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for globally.

The global average honey yield amounted to 455 hg in 2015, rising by 11.8% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +0.1% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest honey yields were recorded in 2013, when it peaked at 463 hg. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
