Abstract

Global production of plywood was estimated at 147,456 thousand cubic meters in 2015. There was an annual increase of +6.1% annually from 2007 to 2015.

According to market research conducted by IndexBox, in 2015, softwood plywood represented a major share of global plywood manufacturing (63%), leaving room for the production of hardwood plywood (37%) in physical terms. In China, softwood plywood was even more popular, representing 66% of total plywood output.

Both types of plywood have shown a positive dynamics between 2007 and 2015. However, softwood plywood had higher average annual growth rate of +7.7% per year.

China was the largest producer of plywood in absolute volumes, with 103,000 thousand cubic meters. It was followed by the U.S. (9,245 thousand cubic meters), Indonesia (5,995 thousand cubic meters) and Malaysia (4,155 thousand cubic meters).

The most notable growth rates in plywood production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2015 were attained by China (+11.1% per year). Moreover, the lion’s share of the increase in global plywood production from 2007 to 2015 was attained by this country.
