As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, phosphoric acid exports fell sharply to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Morocco represented the major exporter of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids in Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Senegal (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Tunisia (X%) and South Africa (X%).
Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids. At the same time, Senegal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Tunisia (X%) and South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2023, supplies from abroad of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, phosphoric acid imports contracted notably to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) represented the largest importers of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids in 2023, accounting for near X% and X% of total imports, respectively. South Africa (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Swaziland (X%), Algeria (X%), Morocco (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%). Kenya (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
