Iran (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X%), Iraq (X%) and Saudi Arabia (X%). The following importers - China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons), India (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.
Imports into Pakistan increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Malaysia (X%), China (X%), the United Arab Emirates (X%), Iraq (X%), Saudi Arabia (X%), India (X%) and Iran (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Yemen, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (X%) and Japan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Pakistan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of Japan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Pakistan ($X), Iran ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together accounting for X% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Japan, China, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese), Uzbekistan, Yemen and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Among the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by X%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2023, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
