Cabbage Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS cabbage market expanded slightly to $X in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, cabbage exports reduced to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2022, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mali prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Senegal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cabbage and other brassicas exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. Senegal (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mali (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.

In value terms, Mali ($X) remains the largest cabbage supplier in ECOWAS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2023, dropping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mali totaled $X per ton.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2023, purchases abroad of cabbage and other brassicas decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cabbage imports declined to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Cabo Verde (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Mali (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Liberia (X tons) represented the largest importer of cabbage and other brassicas in ECOWAS, committing X% of total import. It was distantly followed by Gambia (X tons), mixing up a X% share of total imports.
