Despite a slight dip in exports in 2014, Canada continued its dominance in the global mustard seed trade. In 2014, Canada exported 129 thousand tonnes of mustard seed totaling 115 million USD, 6% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global mustard seed market was the U.S., where it supplied 45.3% of its total mustard seed exports in value terms, accounting for essentially all of the U.S.'s total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Canada was a net exporter of mustard seed. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms this difference was even more pronounced.

Germany and India were among the other main global suppliers of mustard seed in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Serbia (+108.1% per year) and Romania (+34.7% per year).

In 2014, Canada's top 5 trading partners were the U.S., Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and France, with a combined 78.4% share of Canada's mustard seed exports. The share of the U.S. increased nicely (+6.2 percentage points), while the share of Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-10.5 percentage points).
