Canada's Concrete Tile Price Declines to $389 per Ton, Fluctuating Wildly over 2022

Canada Concrete Tile Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the concrete tile price amounted to $389 per ton (CIF, Canada), waning by -12.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 22% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $500 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($892 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($194 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canada Concrete Tile Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was tiles, flagstones and similar articles of cement, concrete or artificial stone ($892 per ton), while the price for building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone amounted to $170 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone (+0.0%).

Canada Concrete Tile Imports

Concrete tile imports into Canada skyrocketed to 40K tons in September 2022, with an increase of 37% against the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 48% m-o-m. Imports peaked in September 2022.

In value terms, concrete tile imports soared to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +8.5% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.4% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 48% month-to-month. Imports peaked in September 2022.

Canada Concrete Tile Imports by Type

In September 2022, building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone (28K tons) constituted the largest type of concrete tile supplied to Canada, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, tiles, flagstones and similar articles of cement, concrete or artificial stone (12K tons), twofold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone stood at +15.5%.

In value terms, tiles, flagstones and similar articles of cement, concrete or artificial stone ($11M) constituted the largest type of concrete tile supplied to Canada, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone ($4.7M), with a 30% share of total imports.

Canada Concrete Tile Imports by Country

In September 2022, the United States (26K tons) constituted the largest supplier of concrete tile to Canada, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete tile imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (4K tons), sixfold. Mexico (3.9K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.8% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from the United States stood at +16.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-0.3% per month) and Mexico (+5.7% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($7.1M) constituted the largest supplier of concrete tile to Canada, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($3.1M), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 16% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from the United States amounted to +12.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (+0.0% per month) and Israel (+9.6% per month).
