In September 2023, the amount of butter and ghee exported from Poland shrank significantly to 4.1K tons, which is down by -26.2% on August 2023. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 with an increase of 104% against the previous month.

In value terms, butter and ghee exports shrank notably to $23M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2023. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when exports increased by 69% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $44M. Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (1.1K tons), Romania (558 tons) and Slovakia (472 tons) were the main destinations of butter and ghee exports from Poland, with a combined 51% share of total exports. France, the Netherlands, Bahrain and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bahrain (with a CAGR of +42.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for butter and ghee exported from Poland were the Czech Republic ($5.9M), Romania ($3M) and Slovakia ($2.8M), together comprising 51% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the Netherlands, Bahrain and Germany, which together accounted for a further 16%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +51.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports by Type

Butter and dairy spreads (3.7K tons) was the largest type of butter and ghee exported from Poland, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, butter and dairy spreads exceeded the volume of the second product type, ghee (368 tons), tenfold.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of butter and dairy spreads totaled -3.1%.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads ($21M) remains the largest type of butter and ghee exported from Poland, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by ghee ($2.4M), with a 10% share of total exports.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of butter and dairy spreads stood at -4.6%.

Export Prices by Country

In September 2023, the butter and ghee price amounted to $5,669 per ton (FOB, Poland), with an increase of 5.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild slump. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $7,000 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Serbia ($6,355 per ton) and Hungary ($6,259 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bahrain ($5,260 per ton) and Romania ($5,340 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahrain (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
