Butter and Ghee Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

The average butter and ghee export price stood at $6,233 per ton in 2022, increasing by 23% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and ghee export price increased by +40.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 60%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Indonesia ($6,689 per ton) and the Philippines ($6,400 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($5,922 per ton) and the Netherlands ($5,923 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average butter and ghee import price stood at $7,475 per ton in 2022, surging by 16% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 18%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,657 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($10,351 per ton), while the price for India ($6,273 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+23.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter and Ghee Exports in New Zealand

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of butter and ghee increased by 12% to 451K tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
