Butter Price in Norway (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average butter import price amounted to $10,786 per ton, picking up by 30% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated temperate growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, butter import price increased by +35.2% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 35% month-to-month. The import price peaked in September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($13,523 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($6,287 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average butter export price amounted to $5,911 per ton, falling by -15.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 93%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $12,293 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Sweden ($8,086 per ton) and Denmark ($6,590 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($5,404 per ton) and Georgia ($5,465 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+45.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Butter Imports in Norway

In 2022, overseas purchases of butter decreased by -62.5% to 194 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 75%.

In value terms, butter imports fell rapidly to $1.2M in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 47%.
