Carrot and Turnip Price in the United Arab Emirates (CIF) - 2022

The average carrot and turnip import price stood at $519 per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $612 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($615 per ton), while the price for Iran ($122 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average carrot and turnip export price stood at $1,173 per ton in 2022, dropping by -8.3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carrot and turnip export price increased by +78.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,278 per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($2,149 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($836 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Carrot and Turnip Imports in the United Arab Emirates

In 2022, carrot and turnip imports into the United Arab Emirates shrank to 81K tons, which is down by -7.9% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 88K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, carrot and turnip imports shrank to $42M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $46M, and then declined in the following year.
