Cement Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2023

The average cement import price stood at $147 per ton in August 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a temperate expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, cement import price decreased by -4.0% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 27% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $153 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Slovakia ($153 per ton) and Poland ($137 per ton), while the price for Germany ($126 per ton) and Austria ($137 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average cement export price amounted to $137 per ton, shrinking by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated tangible growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, cement export price decreased by -2.9% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 22% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $141 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,080 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($135 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement Imports in the Czech Republic

In 2022, approx. 684K tons of cement were imported into the Czech Republic; surging by 8.2% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, cement imports amounted to $72M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
