Cheese Price in Tanzania (CIF) - 2022
The average cheese import price stood at $1,529 per ton in 2022, declining by -62.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,065 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($4,196 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($189 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cheese Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022
The average cheese export price stood at $4,395 per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $36,340 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($20,286 per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($671 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Cheese Imports in Tanzania
In 2022, cheese imports into Tanzania surged to 586 tons, growing by 16% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cheese imports shrank remarkably to $897K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a sharp reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2M, and then declined markedly in the following year.
