The average chestnut import price stood at $1,572 per ton in October 2023, shrinking by -43.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 41% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,809 per ton. From April 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Albania.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Turkey amounted to +2.3% per month.
Chestnut Price in France (FOB) - 2023
In October 2023, the average chestnut export price amounted to $4,309 per ton, reducing by -23.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 276% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $17,758 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($4,345 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK amounted to $4,102 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chestnut Imports in France
In 2022, approx. 5.2K tons of chestnuts were imported into France; surging by 15% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible setback.
