Chestnut Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
The average chestnut import price stood at $6,550 per ton in September 2022, waning by -87.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 843% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $51,069 per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following month.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +5.1% per month.
Chestnut Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average chestnut export price amounted to $7,661 per ton, rising by 4.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,847 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($8,692 per ton), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($2,379 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chestnut Imports in Singapore
Chestnut imports into Singapore skyrocketed to 252 tons in 2022, jumping by 21% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chestnut imports surged to $1.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Chestnut Exports in Singapore
For the fourth year in a row, Singapore recorded growth in overseas shipments of chestnuts, which increased by 10% to 5.1 tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +69.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, chestnut exports expanded rapidly to $39K in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 86% against the previous year.
