Chestnut Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
The average chestnut export price stood at $2,520 per ton in 2022, reducing by -25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27%. The export price peaked at $3,730 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,466 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,654 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chestnut Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average chestnut import price amounted to $907 per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 177%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,563 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,243 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $825 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Chestnut Exports in Turkey
In 2022, approx. 14K tons of chestnuts were exported from Turkey; rising by 30% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, saw a mild decrease.
In value terms, chestnut exports shrank to $34M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year.

Chestnut Imports in Turkey
For the third year in a row, Turkey recorded decline in overseas purchases of chestnuts, which decreased by -73.1% to 303 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a precipitous decline. The smallest decline of -23.8% was in 2020.
In value terms, chestnut imports contracted notably to $275K in 2022. In general, imports faced a dramatic decrease. The smallest decline of -31.2% was in 2020.
