U.S. Cookie And Cracker Import Price in December 2021

In December 2021, the cookie and cracker price amounted to $3,146 per ton (CIF, US), dropping by -10.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 an increase of 7% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $3,593 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,270 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($1,802 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Cookie And Cracker Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In December 2021, the product with the highest price was waffles and wafers ($5,569 per ton), while the price for sweet biscuits ($2,554 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by gingerbread (+3.6%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Cookie And Cracker Imports

In December 2021, purchases abroad of cookies and crackers decreased by -18.8% to 61K tons, falling for the second month in a row after six months of growth. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a mild expansion from January 2021 to December 2021: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last eleven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.5% against October 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 when imports increased by 15% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 83K tons in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cookie and cracker imports dropped significantly to $191M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from January 2021 to December 2021: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last eleven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, imports decreased by -35.6% against October 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2021 when imports increased by 20% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 297K tons in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

U.S. Cookie And Cracker Imports by Type

In December 2021, sweet biscuits (49K tons) constituted the largest type of cookie and cracker supplied to the United States, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, sweet biscuits exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, waffles and wafers (12K tons), fourfold.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of sweet biscuits stood at +1.3%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: waffles and wafers (+1.2% per month) and gingerbread (+13.9% per month).

In value terms, the most traded types of cookies and crackers in the United States were sweet biscuits ($125M), waffles and wafers ($65M) and gingerbread ($1.3M).

U.S. Cookie And Cracker Imports by Country

In December 2021, Mexico (36K tons) constituted the largest supplier of cookie and cracker to the United States, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, cookie and cracker imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (13K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (2K tons), with a 3.2% share.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico totaled +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+0.5% per month) and Italy (+5.5% per month).

In value terms, Canada ($66M), Mexico ($65M) and Italy ($14M) were the largest cookie and cracker suppliers to the United States, together comprising 76% of total imports.

Italy, with a CAGR of +7.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
