Lemon and Lime Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average lemon and lime import price amounted to $1,573 per ton, with a decrease of -17.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from September 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last ten-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, lemon and lime import price decreased by -29.9% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 43% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,532 per ton. From December 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($4,952 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,165 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lemon and Lime Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average lemon and lime export price amounted to $3,194 per ton, with a decrease of -50.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $9,070 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Malaysia.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Hong Kong SAR amounted to +4.4% per year.
Lemon and Lime Imports in Japan
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of lemons and limes increased by 3.4% to 46K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports totaled $91M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt slump.

Lemon and Lime Exports in Japan
In 2022, shipments abroad of lemons and limes decreased by -34.5% to 700 kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports saw a sharp downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 423% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 20 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lemon and lime exports shrank sharply to $2.2K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 609% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $158K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
