Molluscs Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average molluscs import price amounted to $5,369 per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The import price peaked at $6,915 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($5,841 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,062 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Molluscs Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average molluscs export price amounted to $4,349 per ton, declining by -6.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 31% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $6,521 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Liberia ($5,222 per ton) and Panama ($4,406 per ton), while the average price for exports to Marshall Islands ($3,482 per ton) and Italy ($3,706 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Liberia (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Molluscs Imports in Turkey
In 2022, the amount of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) imported into Turkey surged to 6.1K tons, picking up by 102% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, molluscs imports surged to $39M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 105%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Molluscs Exports in Turkey
In 2022, overseas shipments of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) decreased by -38% to 594 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 961 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, molluscs exports dropped dramatically to $3.6M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 47% against the previous year.
