Mushroom and Truffle Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2023
The average mushroom and truffle export price stood at $3,501 per ton in August 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 10% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,554 per ton in July 2023, and then shrank slightly in the following month.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +1.2% per month.
Mushroom and Truffle Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2022
The average mushroom and truffle import price stood at $653K per ton in November 2022, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible setback. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $986K per ton. From January 2022 to November 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Spain.
From December 2021 to November 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Spain amounted to -2.0% per month.
Mushroom and Truffle Exports in Mexico
In 2022, overseas shipments of mushrooms and truffles decreased by -11.3% to 9.5K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 11K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, mushroom and truffle exports rose remarkably to $29M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +22.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +83.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, purchases abroad of mushrooms and truffles decreased by -98.5% to 2.9 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a dramatic decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 252%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 263 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports contracted notably to $284K in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a sharp curtailment.
