Packaging Materials Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2022
The average packaging materials import price stood at $1,063 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,781 per ton), while the price for the United States ($986 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Packaging Materials Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2022
The average packaging materials export price stood at $1,252 per ton in 2022, jumping by 50% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,561 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($3,576 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($907 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Costa Rica (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Packaging Materials Imports in Mexico
In 2022, the amount of packaging materials imported into Mexico contracted to 2.6M tons, with a decrease of -1.9% on the previous year. In general, imports saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 2.5%.
In value terms, packaging materials imports surged to $2.8B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Packaging Materials Exports in Mexico
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of packaging materials, when their volume decreased by -22.8% to 120K tons. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 156K tons, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, packaging materials exports soared to $150M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease.
