In July 2023, the average barium sulphate (barytes); natural export price amounted to $167 per ton, with a decrease of -15.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 49% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $230 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($437 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($131 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average barium sulphate (barytes); natural import price stood at $65.8 per ton in July 2023, falling by -3.7% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a tangible increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, barium sulphate (barytes); natural import price increased by +67.3% against December 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 44% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $68.3 per ton in June 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($282 per ton), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic ($35.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, shipments abroad of barium sulphate (barytes); naturals decreased by -1% to 43K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 250%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 68K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, barium sulphate (barytes); natural exports fell modestly to $6.7M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed resilient growth.
