In August 2023, the average import price for spices; mace, crushed or ground amounted to $22,356 per ton, reducing by -9.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $24,932 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Belgium ($27,156 per ton) and Germany ($24,883 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($20,029 per ton) and Indonesia ($22,926 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In August 2023, the average export price for spices; mace, crushed or ground amounted to $24,244 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 10% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $25,365 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($37,424 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($22,911 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Spices; Mace, Crushed or Ground in the Netherlands

Spices; mace, crushed or ground imports into the Netherlands rose sharply to 325 tons in 2022, growing by 10% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 18%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
