The average export price for steel, stainless stood at $6,812 per ton in January 2024, dropping by -12.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $9,537 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to January 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($44,071 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,439 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average import price for steel, stainless stood at $5,445 per ton in January 2024, rising by 6.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 18% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $7,782 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to January 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($72,360 per ton), while the price for Italy ($2,185 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Steel, Stainless; Angles, Shapes and Sections in Switzerland
In 2022, the amount of steel, stainless exported from Switzerland shrank to 5.9K tons, declining by -4.4% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 6.1K tons, and then fell in the following year.
