The average import price for tobacco, (not stemmed or stripped)s stood at $6,225 per ton in June 2023, with a decrease of -7.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 35% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $6,988 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($7,941 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($3,283 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In May 2023, the average export price for tobacco, (not stemmed or stripped)s amounted to $9,184 per ton, surging by 44% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated perceptible growth from May 2022 to May 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2023 figures, tobacco, (not stemmed or stripped) export price increased by +44.0% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 49% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in May 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($17,052 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,501 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
