The average tobacco refuse import price stood at $867 per ton in 2022, growing by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 46% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,259 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from India ($867 per ton) and Malawi ($867 per ton), while the price for Poland ($867 per ton) and Zimbabwe ($867 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average tobacco refuse export price stood at $2,441 per ton in 2022, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 39% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,752 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($11,339 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($2,360 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tobacco Refuse Imports in Egypt
For the third consecutive year, Egypt recorded decline in supplies from abroad of tobacco refuses, which decreased by -32.9% to 3.2K tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant decrease.
