In 2022, the African ginger market decreased by X% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, ginger exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Nigeria (X tons) represented the key exporter of ginger, comprising X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), comprising a X% share of total exports. Uganda (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ginger. At the same time, Tanzania (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Uganda (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022.
