In value terms, textile wadding exports declined modestly to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then fell slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Mexico was the largest exporter of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Paraguay (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (X%), the Dominican Republic (X%) and Chile (X%).
Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wadding of textile materials and articles thereof exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. Paraguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (X%), Chile (X%) and the Dominican Republic (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Brazil (X p.p.), Chile (X p.p.), Paraguay (X p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest textile wadding supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Paraguay ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a X% share.
In Mexico, textile wadding exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Paraguay (X% per year) and Brazil (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, textile wadding export price increased by X% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Textile Wadding Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2023, purchases abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a six-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2022, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, textile wadding imports totaled $X in 2023. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Mexico prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. Brazil (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Chile (X%). Argentina (X tons), Peru (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wadding of textile materials and articles thereof imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Peru (X%), Brazil (X%), Colombia (X%), Paraguay (X%) and Chile (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Guatemala (X%) and Argentina (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Guatemala, Chile and Argentina saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest textile wadding importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Argentina ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.
Brazil, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2023, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
